The Muskrat: A Double-Edged Skinning Champion
It might be a funny name and an unusual looking knife, but when you put it to work, it really delivers.  The Muskrat is a unique knife specifically designed for efficient and safe skinning and fleshing. This unconventional blade shape belies its effectiveness.  It has become a favorite among professional outfitters, guides, hunters and taxidermists.
Unmatched Skinning Efficiency:
  • Double-Edged Design: The razor-sharp edge extends completely around the rounded tip and along the top side for one inch, allowing for cutting in both directions with a flick of the wrist.
  • Safe for Valuable Capes: The rounded point minimizes the risk of accidentally puncturing the hide, which is crucial for preserving pelts for tanning or mounting.
Built to Last:
  • Steel: Available in either D2 high carbon tool steel or S30V stainless steel, this blade tackles demanding tasks with ease and maintains its sharp edge for extended use.
  • Thin Blade (.080″ thick): This optimizes skinning performance by reducing friction and makes it easier to resharpen.
  • Suregrip Handle:  The checkered rubberized Suregrip handle is available in black or hunter orange.
  • Stag Handle:  This classic handle material is made with genuine elk antler and is stabilized for durability.
Secure and Convenient Carry:
  • Oiled Leather Sheath: This high-quality sheath offers secure storage for your Muskrat Knife.
The Muskrat is not your typical knife, but for those who prioritize efficient and safe skinning, it’s an invaluable tool. Sharpening tip:  Hold the blade still over the edge of a table or other flat surface.  Move the sharpener in small circles along the edge and around the tip, being sure to keep the same angle as the sharpened bevel.  To keep the same angle as the bevel, it is sometimes helpful to mark it with a marker…if you remove the marker evenly, you know the angle is the same.

Round Tip
This unusually shaped knife is unbelievably effective for skinning and fleshing. The razor sharp edge extends completely around the rounded tip and along the top side for one inch. This allows the user to skin very quickly with the knife by cutting in both directions with a quick flick of the wrist. The rounded point is also much less likely to accidentally cut through the skin of a valuable cape than is a very sharp pointed blade.

My daughter gave me a Muskrat knife for Christmas and I used it to clean a deer about two weeks later. That is the slickest, handest knife I’ve ever used. I made one, neat clean cut from the pelvis to the brisket. Held the edge well. Great design.

  2. Jeremy McCauley

I have been using the Muskrat skinning knife on alligators. It works great on the incredibly tough hide. It also helps with cut through which reduces the skin’s value. Thanks for a great knife!

  3. William Roe

This knife was a huge dilemma for me
I was so certain I needed one of those titanium handled scalpel razors blades to have a high speed. low drag. Backcountry blah blah blah

But I realized why am I spending 100$ on just a “titanium handle” and a 25 cent scalpel blade to harvest my animal. When I want to spend good money on an actual knife. so I decided on the muskrat and trust me I have full faith in this knife. It is the sharpest, slickest, and handiest skinning knife I’ve ever spoiled myself with
